Ireland’s Smoking Ban: 20 Years Later, What Has Changed?

Public perception towards smoking has drastically changed since the ban. Initially met with resistance, the cultural shift has seen smoking become less socially acceptable in public spaces – almost as though a new attitude towards smoking has become evident since the ban was put in place.

This change is most evident in the attitudes of younger generations, who are now less likely to pick up smoking due to its diminished presence in everyday life. With fewer people smoking in public places, younger people will now be less influenced and inclined to take up the habit.
